IMAN Atlanta was founded in 2016 and emerged out of years of organizing and base-building in Atlanta’s West End neighborhood.
Representation in exchange for taxation was one of the founding principles of the United States of America. It embodies our national resistance to tyranny. Yet in 2020, centuries after the U.S. gained freedom, justice, and democracy, Georgia has more people on parole and probation than any other state, and remains one of 30 states that does not restore voting rights upon release from prison. Such denial subverts the dignity of the American democratic experience.
The Green ReEntry program offers Atlanta’s returning citizens holistic support including transitional housing, spiritual development, basic education, life skills instruction, on-the-job construction training, and job placement support.
IMAN staff and leaders continue to advocate for criminal justice reform, refugee rights, children’s rights, and engage community members during weekly Grassroots Power Hour gatherings.
Cultivating cultural and communal shifts in how individuals approach holistic wellness including mental and behavioral health.
IMAN makes a unique contribution to the arts community in Atlanta through workshops, Artist-In-Community Residencies, and live performance shows called CommUNITY Café featuring local and internationally renowned artists like Talib Kweli, Maimouna Youssef and Oddisee.
