Organizing Internship
   

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • cultivate relationships with community leaders, local and state political and civic leaders, and community-based organizations
  • support developing programs such as IMAN's monthly organizing forum, the Muslim Run campaign, IMAN Sessions, and an upcoming human rights conference.
  • assist in event planning including outreach among IMAN constituents and leaders
  • organize, track, and update databases and documentation
  • perform general office duties (filing, mailings, photocopies, etc.)
  • assist with research and analyze project data, goals, and outcomes as assigned
  • assist with event coordination, operations, support planning organizing events and actions, and provide support for setup, implementation.
  • provide support with research and raise awareness about policies and initiatives that advocate for social-justice and human rights issues through our reform activities in criminal justice, immigration, and education systems and policy.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Interested in gaining experience in community organizing, advocacy and campaign building;
  • willing to work flexible hours
  • Want to learn how to implement advocacy and organizing strategies
  • Want to learn more about the way community organizations and their networks work
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills (English-Speaking, Spanish and/or Arabic a plus)
  • Light typing/computer skills (MS Word, Excel)
  • Some experience project planning and demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to research and present information in an organized and concise manner
  • Excellent planning, tracking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse groups of people on all levels of civic interaction
  • Interest in social justice and working with community-based organizations in culturally diverse communities.
  • Political Science, Public Policy, and other social science-related majors encouraged to apply
  • Experience in community organizing, volunteer coordination, grassroots organizations, or lobbying preferred, but not required.
